Facts about Jamaica

The tropical climated Jamaica is located in the Caribbean on an island in the Caribbean Sea south of Cuba. The weather is and humid with hurricane season during July through November. Jamaica is a constitutional parliamentary democracy with capital being Kingston located towards southern Jamaica.

History of Jamaica

In 1492 Christopher Columbus landed on Jamaica and discovered natives to the island. Spanish settlers arrived around 1510. Jamaica was granted independence in 1962. Jamaica offers the main sea ways, Cayman Trench and the Jamaica Channel, for the Panama Canal.
